Solution Heat Treatment

Solution heat treatment dissolves alloying elements into a solid solution. The material is heated to a high temperature and then rapidly quenched to retain the solutionized structure.

This treatment prepares the alloy for precipitation hardening.

Temperature Range:

  • 480–550°C (aluminum alloys)

Furnace Types Used:

  • Vacuum furnace
  • Salt bath furnace
  • Controlled atmosphere furnace

Applications:
Aluminum and nickel alloy components
