Carburising

Carburising is a controlled carbonising process in which steel is heated in a carbon-rich atmosphere at 900–950°C. Carbon diffuses into the surface, followed by quenching to achieve high hardness.

Furnace Types Used:

  • Sealed quench furnace
  • Continuous carburizing furnace
  • Pit furnace

Applications:
Gears, bearings, cams
